Review #5 The Banker (2020)

So my first Apple TV film review! The banker is a film directed by George Nolfi about two African-American entrepreneurs in the 1960’s who hire a working class white man to pretend to be the head of their business empire so they can take ownership of banks in America. This helps provides loans to other African American people which were often declined when the banks were previously owned by white men. This film is based on true events and does well in portraying the prejudice towards black men and women in that time period. CAST & THE ACTING The films lead role is played by Anthony Mackie and his characters partner is played my Samuel L Jackson. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult and Nia long. I think the casting team behind this film done very well here and each actor really does justice to their characters. The lightheartedness of Samuel L Jackson’s acting combined with the seriousness, intellect of Anthony Mackie’s character really brought their partnership to life. The rest

Review #4 Ballers (2015-2019)

Hello people!  So I have just finished Ballers a show following Spencer Strasmore, played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson a retired American football player trying to make his way in financial management of NFL players. It follows the hectic lifestyle of these football players, the parties, the relationships, the highs and the lows. Even though I am not an American football fan, I really enjoyed this series and you don’t actually have to know a lot about the sport to watch this series. CAST & THE ACTING  The main role is played by Dwayne Johnson and it was good to see him play a deeper character, showing a range of different emotions in contrast to many of his muscle head, all action roles we have seen him play in other films. He is supported by Rob Corddry, Omar Benson Miller and John David Washington.  I think the acting from everyone was really good, they brought out the comedy whilst also showing the struggles some of these characters had. Whether that be drug or alcohol abuse, fa

Review #3 Vikings (2013-2020)

Time for the first TV show review...  Vikings has to be one of my all time favourite series, a bold claim I know and probably a giveaway on what’s to come in this review! There are officially 6 seasons but really there are 9 because the last 3 seasons have a part 1 and a part 2. So it is a large commitment but I have watched it all twice now and it’s more than worth it. The series is based on the true events of the famous Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the most famous vikings in history, as he leads the first Viking invasions of England! We also see the story of the Sons of Ragnar as they try to live up to their fathers legacy. CAST & THE ACTING  I have given a very strong score here because I honestly couldn’t think of anyone else playing these characters. There are plenty of familiar faces who show up throughout the series but the lead roles are played by actors such as Alexander Ludwig, Kathryn Winnick, Travis Fimmel, Clive Standen and Gustaf Skarsgård. The performances are excellent t

Review #2 TWIST (2021)

So time for review #2... Twist (2021) is a film directed by Martin Owen and is an adaptation of the classic Oliver Twist story. Oliver is a young adult, living on the streets of modern day London using his parkour talents to escape police and spray paint the city, before being taken in by Fagin (Michael Caine) and his family of orphaned misfits. This family of hustlers soon begin planning the biggest heist of their lives but encounter a few hurdles along the way. CAST & THE ACTING  The cast doesn’t include many big blockbuster names, however it does include a lot of recognisable faces. Twist is played by Rafferty Law (son of Jude Law) and he is supported by the likes of Michael Caine, Rita Ora, Lena Heady, Sophie Simnett and Franz Drameh in the main cast. However familiar faces such as Noel Clarke, David Walliams and Jason Maza also appear throughout, with Noel and Jason also helping to produce the film. The cast isn’t to bad for a Sky original film and did hold a lot of promise, h

Review #1 The Prestige (2006)

Hello People! Like pretty much everyone at the moment I have been burning through films and tv series like there is no tomorrow. However, I was doing that way before lockdown so I really can’t use that as an excuse! I know no one asked for them but this blog is pretty much my opinions about the things I’ve watched, created with the hope that maybe anyone reading this could have a good film or series to watch next.  First up is The Prestige (2006), directed by Christopher Nolan about the rivalry of two magicians that soon becomes deadly! My reviews will consist of 3 different scores, all out of 10, I will then use the average to create an overall score. You’ve made it this far, so let’s crack on... CAST & THE ACTING  I start off the review with a huge score of 9 out of 10 for the cast which I believe is actually on the harsh side! I am a firm believer that you don’t need a great cast to have a great film but believe me this cast only compliments the film. The two magicians are playe
