REVIEW #442 Sing Sing (2024)
Sing Sing
Synopsis
Based on a true story, a man falsely imprisoned in Sing Sing prison, turns his talents to the stage, helping his fellow inmates to heal.
My Review
Sing Sing is a beautifully crafted slow burn drama that explores the importance of community and how, with the support of others we can always better ourselves. Meanwhile it also acts as a love letter to expressionism and how there is an artist in everyone, which creates an interesting juxtaposition to the types of inmates that are portrayed throughout the film too. The fact that they also used previously incarcerated actors too, just emphasises that feeling of authenticity that the movie exudes right from the start. Colman Domingo is fantastic and plays the role to perfection, earning that Oscar nomination proudly! It did have its moments where the pacing dropped slightly, but the third act picked up nicely and provided a really satisfying conclusion to the film.
My Rating: 8 out of 10
