My Review

Death of a Unicorn utilises a charming and talented cast to create a fun movie that audiences can just switch off and enjoy. In a pretty stacked ensemble cast, Will Poulter was the stand out, executing his comedic timing with the upmost precision, every scene he was in, left me laughing out loud in the cinema. This is by no means a perfect movie, it’s a little bit silly and, on occasion the sub plots felt kind of unnecessary and they didn’t move the story further, instead exacerbating that silliness to the point where it was a little too much. But this is without a doubt a horror comedy, you can see the Jurassic Park inspirations that influenced the movie and that combination creates a simple, yet enjoyable film. The CGI was a little hit and miss, but with a production budget of just $15m, I think it was pretty damn impressive! This is the sort of film we need to see more of, an extremely popular cast, smaller budget horror comedy that isn’t ridiculed with box office statistics and is just allowed to flourish under the radar. They don’t need to be perfect, they just need to be fun and Death of a Unicorn was just that. Definitely get out to see it if you can!

My Rating: 7 out of 10
