Encanto

Synopsis

The Madrigals live in a magical hidden town in the mountains of Columbia called Encanto, but a mystery threat begins to weaken their magical paradise.

My Review

The first half of Encanto was super impressive with an alluring concept that allowed for vibrant animation, enticing lore and captivating musical numbers. Unfortunately as the second half progresses I found myself disappointed with the direction of the film. The final climax was incredibly unsatisfying and when the credits rolled I found myself disappointed at the wasted potential of such a promising premise. The idea that Mirabel essentially becomes a glorified therapist just wasn’t the conclusion I was hoping for and I felt there was far more creative ways to give the character her deserved magical ending.
