REVIEW #445 Elio (2025)

Elio

Synopsis

Elio is an orphan, taken in by his aunty and whom dreams of meeting aliens and leaving the world that has made him feel so alone.

My Review

Elio is an incredibly heartwarming exploration into loneliness, the struggle to fit in and an outsiders dream of friendship. Using the ever-interesting subject of Aliens to put an entertaining spin on its messaging in true Pixar fashion. The movie has many beautiful moments, both from a story perspective and a visual standpoint too but unfortunately I don’t think the overarching narrative is as strong as some of Pixar’s classic films. Elio as a character is charming and likeable, his friendship with Glordon acting like the wholesome glue that ties the entire film together. That being said, I believe the film would have benefitted from fleshing out the backstory a little further, strengthening the motives of the character and just providing a little more context to the story. However, in a sequel orientated world, I respect the originality and drive to create something new, and Elio is a film that new generations of Pixar fans will undoubtedly enjoy.

My Rating: 7 out of 10
