My Review
‘Christy’ might not be a polished article, it’s imperfect sure, but despite is technical flaws, you would struggle to avoid getting swept up in the harrowing, yet commendable story of Christy Martin. Sydney Sweeney takes on arguably her greatest challenge yet and rises to the occasion admirably, transforming into one of boxing’s most iconic female fighters. As a fan of the sport, I really appreciated seeing the transition from sloppy rookie into a more technical power puncher. A lot of boxing films have their fighters hit the ground running, so it was refreshing to see that development in skill, beyond a simple fitness montage. But the real development comes from within the character, to overcome such a traumatic case of domestic violence and return to the ring, should be an inspiration to everyone. That subject matter is difficult to watch at times, but the conclusion will have you cheering with pride!
My Rating: 6.8 out of 10
