My Review

Train Dreams is a graciously executed juxtaposing tale that illustrates the immense cruelty of life, but equally the wonderful blessings it has to offer us as well. On the surface it may be a story about the life of a logger in the early 1900’s, but it acts as an incredible character study exploring grief, love and friendship. Adolpho Velosa, the cinematographer, has earned by vote for this year’s award season, partnered with director Clint Bentley, the pair have created breathtaking visuals and one of the most beautiful films of 2025. It’s a real shame I didn’t get to see Train Dreams on the big screen in all of its glory, but it’s no surprise that Netflix wanted to pick this up for its platform, given its quality. If you want stunning visuals, fantastic performances and a good cry along the way, then this is a film you need to check out.

My Rating: 8.5 out of 10
