My Review

Twinless is a wonderfully crafted comedy drama that explores the intricacies of twinship through the lens of grief and regret, whilst incorporating the importance of friendship and camaraderie too. The ultimate twist is one the audience can see coming but it works brilliantly at evoking a sense of anger from the audience on behalf of Roman, and the writing emphasised that by making him such a kind hearted, relatable and ultimately innocent character that you can’t help but love and feel protective of. Which brings me onto Dylan O’Brien’s performance, not just as Roman but also the contrasting Rocky, wildly juxtaposing characters that highlight the actors range and talent. I’ve always said O’Brien is severely underrated by the industry and it’s a performance such as this that will put directors and casting agents on notice!

It’s also worth noting that this was James Sweeney’s second feature film, which is particularly impressive, especially considering he plays the co-lead! Twinless also boasts incredible cinematography, capturing a sense of authenticity in each frame, meanwhile creating their own sense of beautiful grandeur too. The hybrid approach of combining 35mm and digital cameras provided a wonderful aesthetic that felt integral to the films tone and execution. It’s a shame we had to wait so long in the UK for the film to release, but it would have certainly broken into my top 10 of 2025 and in hindsight, I wish it received more attention from award bodies too. I knew absolutely nothing about the films plot going into the screening and I left having absolutely loved it, so I’d definitely recommend catching it if you can!

My Rating: 9 out of 10
