My Review
Disclosure Day is unfortunately a dull and uninspired film that marked the first time I have left a Spielberg picture extremely disappointed. Despite reflecting the current state of affairs in the US with the release of more and more UFO material, I struggled to engage with the story and the characters, with many moments of the film almost sending me to sleep!
On paper Disclosure Day has everything I would want from a modern day Sci-Fi thriller, a fantastic director, an absolutely stacked cast and the legend John Williams behind the musical score. But in reality the two and a half hour run time felt like four, dragging at an awfully slow pace, with only one real set piece that injected a bit of excitement into proceedings. Emily Blunt does drop an impressive performance and Colin Firth’s character did have a lot of intrigue but he failed to build up momentum as the films antagonist. The greatest crime was probably how underutilised Colman Domingo was, completely wasted behind a boring character that brought very little to the script beyond surface level dialogue.
I thought this would be one of the best movies of 2026 but ultimately it could become its biggest disappointment! I also think the Martian designs were quite lazy and uninventive, using that stereotypical design felt like the easy option and I would have appreciated something new and exciting that broke away from industry norms.
My Rating: 4.5 out of 10
Thanks for reading.
