REVIEW #55 INTELLIGENCE (2020-Present)

Intelligence is a Sky One comedy series created by Nick Mohammed and is about a NSA agent called Jerry who moves to England to work for the Government Communications Headquarters and teams up with computer analyst Joseph Harries to combat cyber crime.

CAST & THE ACTING

David Schwimmer leads the cast and in my opinion this is his best role since his iconic portrayal of Ross in Friends. He hasn’t lost his comical timing and his physical comedy is still brilliant too. Nick Mohammed plays his sidekick Joseph and it’s clear from episode one that the pair have great on screen chemistry. Although the rest of the cast are not huge names in the acting world they still deliver strong performances, with each of their characters being extremely funny in their own kind of way. The dynamic between the cast creates a really funny series with characters you can enjoy.

THE PLOT & THE STORYLINE

Intelligence is something different to what I have seen before, it’s set in the offices of the Government communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and doesn’t venture to much out into other settings. However by doing that, it focuses more on the comedy and the writing and it’s all the better for it. The arrogant and cocky NSA agent Jerry comes to England with the reputation of a talented agent but they soon find out he left America disgraced which develops some really funny sub plots. The storyline basis for each episode isn’t anything extraordinary but it’s the comedy that makes it really enjoyable. The episodes aren’t very long but that works in its favour because you can really burn through this series pretty quickly and the comedy gets you hooked from episode one.

CINEMATOGRAPHY & SPECIAL EFFECTS

There isn’t much to talk about here because there isn’t any special effects at all really, it’s a sitcom style comedy so it really doesn’t need any of it. The cinematography is pretty basic due to the same reasons, they really didn’t need to overcomplicate the show with technical camera work because they rely mostly on the clever writing and one liners.

OVERALL (8/10)

I enjoyed this series more than I expected to, it was hilarious and credit has to be given to the writers and the creator Nick Mohammed because they have created a simple but effective show that can make audiences laugh. The plot isn’t to complicated and is actually different to anything I’ve seen but it works well. David Schwimmer brings experience into this series and he does brilliantly with his comedic timing, his physical comedy and his tone which is why I believe it’s his best role since Friends! I would definitely recommend this series, the episodes are only short so you can complete it pretty quickly.

Thanks for reading.
