REVIEW #212 John Wick: Chapter 3 (2019)

Set directly after the events of chapter 2, John Wick has now been made excommunicado and must escape the endless waves of assassins attempting to retrieve the bounty on his head. He calls in old favours in an desperate attempt to stay alive and of course utilises his unique combat skills in the process.

John Wick Chapter 3 continues to illustrate its unadulterated action sequences through elegant and almost poetic choreography. It was always going to be hard to improve upon the first two instalments but it did so tremendously, I was shocked, impressed and blown away by just how well these sequences were pulled together. Now in addition to that, they created beautiful cinematography that ensured every scene was bursting with life and was full of colour and detail. I have been critical of Keanu Reeves’ acting range in the past but if there is one thing this man is elite level at, it’s action films! He leaves no detail unturned and it’s clear the dedication to his craft pays off because every fight looks like a perfected dance, crafted for maximum entertainment and audience satisfaction. I loved Halle Berry’s appearance, she matched Keanu in every way and the inclusion of her two badass dogs made that epic gun fight so much better too. There were plenty of twists and turns during the film and it also highlighted the legacy and reputation John Wick has amongst the assassin community, which in hindsight, we know very little of because his life before the first film has been kept pretty under wraps so far. But we do learn a little more about his roots when he cashes in his ticket, ill leave you to find out what I mean by that! There is no doubt that this is my favourite instalment yet and it has built so much excitement for the fourth film. Chad Stahelski has created a legendary action flick with so much smooth fluidity that kept me entertained from start to finish.

Overall (9/10)

Thanks for reading.
