REVIEW #235 Game of Thrones (Season 6)

Season 6 is arguably the strongest season in the entire show and although my personal favourite does seem to change with every rewatch, it certainly always floated around the top 2 at the least. The build up to the final showdown between Jon Snow and Ramsey Bolton was excellent and finished with the epic ‘The Battle of The Bastards’. The musical score for that particular scene enhanced every aspect and the cinematography itself made the entire confrontation one to remember. It truly highlighted the harshness and the brutality of war, an extremely gritty, chaotic and gruesome battle, even for Game of Thrones. The Daenerys storyline thickened and really started hit its stride, taking back control of her dragons and finally accumulating an army capable of conquering the seven Kingdoms. Bran’s storyline picked up and got a little more exciting, providing context behind the Night King but it still left a lot unexplained. It doesn’t really illustrate the importance of the one eyed raven and their purpose but I guess we never really get that anyway, which was one of the downfalls of the show.

The character work continues to impress and this time we witnessed sSansa’s transformation from a vulnerable girl who always found herself pushed into the hands of monsters, to a women determined to take control of her own life and punish those who have wronged her. Now my season 5 review mentioned how exhausting I found the High Septon storyline and we finally see the end of it in season 6 with Cersei’s most killer move yet, her decision to blow up everyone at the trial. It ultimately pushed her son to suicide and it really cements her as one of the most evil characters in the show. You really won’t see a single bad performance at this point, the entire cast absolutely smash it and they know their characters so well at this point that they become faultless almost. I love season 6 and it marks the moment that everything starts to come together, the beginning of the end so to speak.

Overall (9.6/10)

Thanks for reading!
