REVIEW #402 The Mummy (2017)

SYNOPSIS

After Sergeant Nick Morton calls for an airstrike in the desert, the aftermath reveals the hidden tomb of an ancient princess and one who was looking for a path to resurrection.

RATING

The reboot of The Mummy franchise was certainly not a successful one, even with the talents of Tom Cruise and a super impressive cast, it fails to reach the heights of its predecessor. I actually think the first two acts were pretty fun, taking elements from the old movies and modernising them to creat something fresh for modern audiences. It created a new lore to the world they were trying to build and to me at least, all seemed rather promising. Unfortunately the final act was an utter mess, making Tom cruise some ancient god with the powers to bring back the dead was just not the right creative choice and in the process, that final third ultimately halted the monster universe in its tracks.

RATING (5/10)

Thanks for reading.
