My Review
Rivals was such a wonderful surprise to come out of 2024, one that I have absolutely relished, in all of its unadulterated glory! It has a fantastic selection of British actors who thrived in each of their respective roles, providing a strong dose of nostalgia from start to finish. The show acts as a romanticised insight into how the other half live, the rich elite and their petty rivalry and debauchery. It weaves interconnected sub plots that emphasise drama but also installs such heart into the core of the show, where you can’t help but be reeled into these captivating characters. David Tennant is fantastic as per usual, but the show wouldn’t be the same without a single one of its cast members. I loved seeing Danny Dyer in this sort of role too, I really am appreciating his resurgence over the past couple of years! Episode 1 pulls you into a false sense of security, setting up what you think to be the antagonist of the show and as each episode passes, it’s all flipped on its head, with twists and turns along the way to amp up the entertainment. Unfortunately I think Rivals has flew under the radar completely, but it’s a show I’d recommend whole heartedly. I actually think my high score is still on the conservative side but if season 2 can follow in the footsteps of the debut season, we’re in for a real treat!
My Rating: 9.2 out of 10
Thanks for reading.
