REVIEW #461 Caught Stealing (2025)

Caught Stealing

Synopsis

When his punk rock neighbour asks him to cat sit for the weekend, Hank finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of warring gangsters who all want a piece of him.

My Review

Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing felt like a throwback to a different era of filmmaking! An old school, high stakes crime comedy, that leaned into its 90’s aesthetic and provided a fun mixture of action and emotion. It was never afraid to make bold choices from a narrative perspective and that keeps the audience on its toes, avoiding predictable twists and maintaining the excitement and tension from start to finish. The performances were incredibly captivating, Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz’ chemistry was brilliant and Matt Smith was perfect for the role of Punk Rocker Russ. One of my favourite aspects of the film was its costume design, which really emphasised the time period, it felt authentic, yet unique. All in all, I had a great time with Caught Stealing and although it didn’t evoke any particularly strong reactions, I do believe it has that rewatch factor and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun film to catch this weekend!

My Rating: 7.8 out of 10
