I Swear (2025)

Synopsis

A biographical British drama about John Davidson, a man diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at a time where it was barely diagnosable.

My Review

‘I Swear’ tees up to be one of the best hidden gems of 2025, with Robert Aramayo dropping a career defining performance that simply has to earn him an Oscar nomination this year. The film is small in scale but it tells the emotional story of John Davidson and his struggle with Tourette syndrome, beautifully. Films such as this carry an incredible weight, acting not only as a form of entertainment but an educational piece that can teach us humans a little lesson in empathy and consideration, but a huge lesson on the impact of Tourette’s syndrome and the hardships it can create for those who suffer with it. That made the film inherently emotional, with plenty of tearjerker moments but it was also incredibly funny too, with the laughter helping the audience connect with John even more. As with all biographical films, it was a little jumpy as we progressed through John’s journey but I thought it handled the time jumps pretty well considering. Definitely support the film if you can, I highly recommend it!

My Rating: 8.5 out of 10
