Film Details
Director: Baltasar Kormakur

Synopsis
A grieving woman seeks solace in the Australian wild, but soon finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
My Review
Netflix’s latest original action thriller boasts a brilliantly psychotic performance from Taron Egerton, who thrives as the antagonist here. Whereas Charlize Theron worked well as the strong and resilient Sasha, but she doesn’t really break any new ground with her performance, but rather reminiscent to many of her previous roles. Likewise, the formula for Apex is something we have all seen before but the Australian wilderness and the extreme sports aspect to the movie does provide a freshness that will have your heart racing, those climbing sequences never fail to make me extremely nervous!
The film benefits from an on location shoot, with the authenticity of the Australian wildness, the cinematography is super immersive and it helped raise the stakes of the deadly game of cat and mouse between the two lead characters. But despite being a pretty enjoyable film, I fear Apex is just a little too forgettable and fortunately Egerton’s villainous energy acts as a redeeming feature that makes it an easy popcorn movie this weekend.
My Rating: 5 out of 10
