My Review
The Evil Dead franchise returns and it’s as brutal and bloody as ever before, balancing humour and horror really nicely. The Deadites here are truly on top form, with amazing performances that helped bring these possessed figures to life with style! Of course the usual genre tropes are present here but the iconic traits of the franchise and the impressive camerawork on display, gives Evil Dead Burn the freshness needed to stay relevant in a packed genre right now.
As I mentioned previously, the camera work on display was without doubt, my favourite aspect of the movie! It was inventive and organic, naturally flowing in motion with the action, chaos unfolding around the trajectory of the camera. This culminates into a one-shot scene during the climax of the film and it was absolutely brilliant! This latest instalment gave me very similar vibes to Resident Evil: Biohazard, using that isolated location centred around a ‘problematic family’ to create such a creepy atmosphere filled with tension and suspense.
Unfortunately the final act lets the film down, the action and horror starts to become repetitive with barely any progression to the overarching narrative. But the cherry on the cake for me was the disastrous CGI antagonist acting as the final boss to Alice’s final girl arc. It was poorly executed and an underwhelming climax that marked a drop off in quality compared to the other Deadite designs and captivating action we had seen earlier on in the film. But despite the sketchy finish, I still had a really fun time with Evil Dead Burn (not including the terrible cinema etiquette from members of the audience).
My Rating: 6.8 out of 10
Thanks for reading.
