My Review
The Invite is hilarious, tense and outright awkward at times, with Olivia Wilde creating one of the best films of 2026 so far! This one location movie plays to the strengths of its cast and utilises a fabulous script, allowing for such an enjoyable, communal theatre experience which had the entire audience laughing out loud harmoniously.
As I mentioned, The Invite is set within the confides of a single apartment and such a creative choice relies heavily on the casts ability to captivate the audience with their performances, which is absolutely the case here. Each character was casted perfectly, allowing the actors to flourish, frequently switching between comedic and dramatic tones to perfectly encapsulate what it means to be a dramatic comedy. Then the technical components of the film just enhance that experience, a piercing musical score heightened the tension but often acted as an audible representation of the punchline, helping the humour land each and every time! But it’s important to note the subtle, yet impressive camera work on display here, combined with the effective editing that was fundamental to the atmosphere that Olivia Wilde intended for the film. Just a really well made film all round!
I knew from the moment I watched the trailer that I was going to love The Invite and it has more than met those expectations! I always enjoy seeing Seth Rogen in roles like this but my favourite performance was undoubtedly Olivia Wilde and to do that whilst directing the film too…it’s just such an impressive achievement and I hope it attracts attention during award season, standing strong against the stacked pool of big budget blockbusters this year. A must see film!
My Rating: 9 out of 10
