REVIEW #48 Agents of Shield (2013-2020)

Agents of Shield is a spin off from the Marvel Cinematic Films, following Agent Phil Coulson as he leads a skilled unit within SHIELD. Throughout the 7 seasons they battle a number of different threats from powered individuals, Hydra, Asgardians and chronicom robots.  CAST & THE ACTING (8.5/10) Clark Gregg reprises his role as Agent Coulson and I’m glad Marvel decided to explore this character further because we see much more personality and heart in contrast to what we see in the main MCU films. Chloe Bennett plays Daisy Johnson, known as quake in the comics, Elizabeth Henstridge and Ian De Caestecker play Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmonds and Ming-Na Wen plays Agent May. The group dynamic is really good and it brings a great chemistry between the cast which gets the audience invested in these characters. In particular Fitz and Simmonds, you are hooked on their relationship from season one all the way to season 7. Also I liked how the main MCU actors also appeared every now and then in

REVIEW #47 ARMY OF THE DEAD (2021)

Army of the Dead is a horror/action film directed by Zack Snyder, set in America just after Las Vegas is taken over by a zombie infection. The city has been barricaded and a nuke is set to wipe out its zombie inhabitants but a selected group have been tasked to get in and break into a casino vault before that happens. CAST & THE ACTING (8/10) I think the casting for this film was really good, Dave Bautista leads the ensemble as Scott Ward and I think he was perfect for the role. He shows range and brings depth to a character which, at first look, just seems like an action hero. However as the film goes on we see him go on a path of redemption with his daughter Kate (played by Ella Purcell), so we actually see quite an emotional journey for the character. The other cast members include Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Tig Notaro,  Huma Qureshi among other familiar faces! I think every does a good job and it’s a good mixture of comedic performances and more dramatic performances wh

REVIEW #46 Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Godzilla vs Kong is directed by Adam Wingard set in the world where Titans are a constant threat, with Godzilla as the Alpha. A team of scientists attempt to use Kong to access the Hollow Earth, a world inside the core of the earth which is believed to be the Titans true home. In doing so a huge battle between Kong and Godzilla is started, meanwhile other forces are attempting to harness the Titans power for their own agenda. CAST & THE ACTING (7/10) Millie Bobbie Brown and Kyle Chandler reprise their roles as Maddie and Mark Russell with a host of other actors joining the cast. These include Alexander Skarsgård, Julian Dennison, Rebecca Hall and Eiza González. I think the cast as a whole done a pretty good job, it was clear that producers attempted to inject more comedy into this film compared to the previous two instalments. Especially with Dennison’s character Josh and Brian Henry’s character Bernie and they both done well at delivering that comical element in this movie. I woul

REVIEW #45 The Hobbit Trilogy (2012-2014)

The Hobbit trilogy consists of three films directed by Peter Jackson; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. This is a prequel trilogy set before the events of The Lord of The Rings, following the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he helps a group of Dwarves reclaim their homeland. CAST & THE ACTING (9.5/10) I really liked the castings in this film, Martin Freeman plays Bilbo Baggins and does a tremendous job at injecting charisma and comedy into the character. Richard Armitage plays Thorin Oakenshield the rightful King under the mountain and he also does well at portraying a tough and brave leader who is later poisoned by the curses of the treasure in the mountain, which requires a real range of acting ability. Some familiar faces return to reprise their roles like Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Ian McKellen as Gandolf the Grey, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel and even Christopher Lee as Saruman. There are even more ac

REVIEW #44 Invincible (2021)

Invincible is an adult superhero cartoon based on the image comics series of the same name by Robert Kirkman. It follows Mark Grayson as he comes into his inherited super powers. From learning to fly, to battling super villains, this series is full of gore and violence, with bad language too. CAST & THE VOICE ACTING (9/10) This cast really is fantastic, Steven Yeun voices Mark Grayson and does a brilliant job at bringing an array of emotions to this character through his voice work. The other actors behind some of the voices include Seth Rogan, JK Simmons, Mark Hamill, Zazie Beetz, Zachery Quinto and the list of big names goes on an on! The entire cast do so well at injecting humour and emotion into the characters which really gets the audience invested in them. So I believe a high score of 9 out of 10 is perfectly justified here. PLOT & THE STORYLINE (8.5/10) I liked the storyline a lot, there are many established superheroes in this world and many different groups fighting cr

REVIEW #43 Tenet (2020)

Tenet is an action/thriller directed by Christopher Nolan about a secret agent tasked with preventing world war 3 but this isn’t a usual mission. He must travel through time to complete his task, armed with just one word, Tenet. CAST & THE ACTING (8/10) The casting was great for this film with John David Washington playing the lead role, named ‘The Protagonist’ but the other cast members include Robert Pattison, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh. The acting was convincing and the choreography for the combat scenes were really good, especially because a lot of it was backwards! Whether that was them acting some scenes that way or simply just rewinding footage, it come across well! There was some good accents used with Pattisons upper class British accent and even Branagh’s Russian accent. So I believe that a decent score is deserved here.  PLOT & THE STORYLINE (5/10) I really didn’t like this storyline, it is very much Christopher Nolan’s style, causing

REVIEW #42 Jupiter’s Legacy (2021)

Jupiter’s Legacy is Netflix’s latest superhero project based on the comic book series by Frank Miller and Frank Quietly. It follows the worlds first superheroes, who acquired their powers in 1930 and we see just how they acquired them through a series of flashbacks throughout the series. However in the present day they run the ‘Union’ of superheroes, where their children struggle to live up to the expectations of their parents. CAST & THE ACTING (8.5/10) Josh Duhamel leads the cast as Sheldon Sampson the leader of the Union and Leslie Bibb plays his wife Grace. The rest of the cast are relatively unknown, however they still deliver strong performances. One I would like to highlight in particular is Elena Kampouri as Chloe Sampson, the troubled daughter of Grace and Sheldon. She does brilliantly at showing a character with real depth, she has superpowers but being the daughter of the two most powerful superheroes in the world has only led her down a path of drugs and alcohol abuse.

REVIEW #41 Zeroville (2019)

Zeroville is a film directed by James Franco, set in the 1970’s  a peculiar man obsessed with film travels to Hollywood to get a taste of the film business. He soon makes an impression on a young actress but his dream Hollywood journey soon hits a few hurdles.  CAST & THE ACTING (8/10) Some people may disagree with my score here but this cast includes some of my favourite comedy actors and any film containing James Franco, Seth Rogan, Craig Robinson, Will Ferral and Danny Mcbride is off to a pretty great start in my opinion! James Franco’s approach is a weird one I must say but that is what his character is intended to be... weird. An odd ball who travels to Hollywood based on his obsession with film, so much so that he has a tattoo of Montgomery Cliff and Elizabeth Taylor on the back of his head. Megan Fox plays Vikars (James Franco) love interest and I think her performance was pretty good too. So I have given a strong 8 here because I do feel like the acting matched what Franco

REVIEW #40 Rocketman (2019)

Rocketman is the musical Biopic of Elton John directed by Dexter Flether. We see his childhood as Reginald Dwight and his early music career before his wild journey with fame, drugs and alcohol. It uses his songs to tell the story of his life up until his first stint in Rehab, which is where he narrates the film from. CAST & THE ACTING (9/10) Taron Egerton is the lead, playing Elton John and he does brilliantly! His singing was excellent and not only did he dance and bring excitement into the film but he also showed the real darkness in Elton John’s life, portraying real range in his acting ability. Egerton’s performance will really have you singing along one minute and tearing up in the next scene! Richard Madden, Jamie Bell and Bryce Dallas Howard are just some of the other great actors who appear in the film. They also delivered strong performances which helped contribute to such a strong score in this category.  PLOT & THE STORYLINE (8.5/10) You will obviously know parts of

REVIEW #39 Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016)

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a film directed by Tim Burton about a young boy called Jake who after his grandfathers death soon learns that all the stories his grandfather told him about his children’s home in Wales is true. He finds a hidden home full of children with unique special abilities and soon has to help protect them from monsters called the Hollowgasts. CAST & THE ACTING (6/10) The cast is actually very good with Asa Butterfield in the lead roles as Jake and Eva Green as Miss Peregrine but there are more big names such as Samuel L Jackson, Judie Dench and Terrance Stamp who also have roles in this film. However despite the talented cast I just didn’t think the acting was that great, the portrayal of these characters weren’t convincing enough for me to get invested in the film and therefore I found myself drifting off and getting bored. So I have to give a disappointing score here. PLOT & THE STORYLINE (5.5/10) I remember seeing the trailer for this f
