REVIEW #408 Afraid (2024)
SYNOPSIS
When a family decides to take on a new AI system called Aia into their home, what seems to be a useful friend soon turns sinister.
REVIEW
Unfortunately Afraid’s script is one of the most generic and underwhelming scripts of the year so far. It’s a story that on the surface, seems like most people would come up with if tasked to write a movie about AI gone bad. Now I didn’t have a horrible time watching it, it’s watchable and I never felt like turning it off, but it fails to break new ground and explore avenues that audiences haven’t seen before. I guess you could argue it poses a test of morality to the audience and whether or not they agree with some of the AI’s decisions, but even that is a little bit of a push. I have no doubt that it’s a movie that will be forgotten about very quickly.
RATING: 4.5 out of 10
